Walk or run the Langdale Horseshoe
A classic day out, encompassing the hills around the Great Langdale valley. There are several variations, but you’ll at least visit the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Crinkle Crags. The ambitious may also take on Esk Pike or Pike of Blisco. Whatever your journey, you are guaranteed a rewarding day out, with views right across the Lake District fells.
Take a dip in Stickle Tarn
It is a stiff climb from the valley floor up to Stickle Tarn, but it is worth it! Rewarded with fantastic views of the valley, the imposing backdrop of Pavey Ark crags, and the inviting Stickle Tarn. Don’t forget to take your swimming costume because a dip in the refreshing water is just what you’ll need.
Either head back down, or continue your journey taking in the summits of Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle. The return path alongside Dungeon Ghyll is to be savoured with stunning views (and a sharp drop!) into the ghyll.
Back down the hill you can look forward to a refreshing pint, or a coffee and cake, in the infamous Stickle Barn.
Go rock climbing
Langdale is a mecca for rock climbers in the Lake District. The easily accessible valley crags of Raven Crags and Scout Crags. Classic routes on high mountain crags such as Pavey Ark, Gimmer, White Ghyll and Bowfell. Quality bouldering by the roadside at the Langdale Boulders. Hidden gems on the lesser known Gaitkins, Black and Lightning Crags.
